A hero is a myth - O.J. Simpson is not a myth.

O.J. was a childhood hero to me. I read the childrens book about how he overcame a weak bone structure in his legs, overcame poverty, went to San Francisco state the same year my dad did - and to become one of the greatest running backs of all time.

I wore his number proudly, and I played football believing I could run like O.J. Delusional as I was it gave me confidence - sure, but he was really special. I never understood race tension which is probably why I don't see it with our next president. I came from a home and an area and an age that didn't ever really hold on to that crap. O.J. Simpson was the real deal, and inspiration for untold numbers of young kids, adults, whites, blacks, greens---whatever!

Can you imagine screwing up your life any worse than the way this supposed Hero did?

Can you imagine how much weight is pressing in his mind?

Why he hasn't fallen on his own sword by now is a testament to the kind of man he really is. No sense of what real honor is. I am ashamed - but now that I'm older - I am so not surprised.

Know Hope!
